My first slipcover

A while ago I purchased an IKEA sofabed and couldn't have been happier. I figured that I would look on the IKEA website for slipcovers later, but when I went to look I found that my sofabed didn't have any readymade slipcovers. argh!

So the other day I was riding the bus home and remembered that I had a shower curtain that would make a great slipcover for my little black sofa. I just wasn't sure if it was big enough or if I could even make a slipcover.

So here's what I started with:

And here's what I ended up with:

I think it turned out really nice. Maybe having the Olympics on in the background was good luck. I can't believe I even got all the stripes lined up. Now I'm going to be on the lookout for more shower curtains to make more slipcovers out of (I like to change things up a lot!)

I expected this from Apple...but Ikea??

This morning has been a bit rough. I found a can of corned beef hash in my cupboard and decided it sounded good for breakfast (I was starving!). I excitedly went to the kitchen drawer to get my new IKEA "CHARM" can opener. Turning on the stove I poured a little olive oil into a skillet and set to opening the can. Or so I thought. For the life of me I could NOT get the can opener to work! Realizing that I would  miss my bus if I spent too much time making breakfast I hastily googled "IKEA can opener how to". To my surprise the page was filled with "I FINALLY figured out my IKEA can opener!" blog entries. After clicking on a few I was enlightened to the 'side lever' that so cleverly hides in the body of the device. I was on my way to hash! uh...nope. After using the lever to clamp onto the top of the can and getting one turn into the top the can opener FELL APART! Now my heated skillet was useless.

Being the problem-solver that I am I quickly grabbed my hammer, punched a few nail holes in the top of the can and hammered my way into the hash. I think at this point it wasn't so much about eating as it was showing that can opener that it could kick me down, but I would get right back up!!

Later, at work, I ran into another snag when I tried to make a CD out of songs on my ipod. Silly me! Apple has now configured itunes with a hex to prevent you from being able to transfer songs from your ipod (or iphone!) onto your computer and there's no way to burn any of the songs onto a disk. argh! I knew there had to be a hack for this and came across ephpod. Unfortunately, there seems to be a snag with this program as well; it kept telling me that itunes had locked my ipod and then it would just shut down. Then I cam across this gem of an article and realized I could hack it myself. The only problem is that with the video ipods the music is arranged by code (an mp3 will show as KHGS.mp3 or POLS.mp3) instead of the file's actual name. Oh Apple you are clever! But, I copied all the files to a folder in windows media player and viola! All my ipod music is now organized via media player and I can burn all the CDs I want from there :)
