I Met the Walrus

I'm sure a lot of people have already seen this, but how amazing to be 14 and to get an interview with someone you idolize. The animation is also fantastic. I love the background.....it sounds so busy and chaotic.

shamefull self-indulgence

When I was on my poster making kick I drafted up a poster for Paper Brain's show this friday which is a benefit show being put on by PDX Pop Tomorrow!. I expected Pop Tomorrow! to make their own poster and fliers for the show, but made mine anyway because I was bored. I just looked at the Pop Tomorrow! website and *my* poster is right there on the home page! It's also the primary photo for Portland Oregon Indie Music's myspace. I know it's really not a big deal, but it's great to see that other people like my work :)

Long Weekend

So it's officially still the weekend for me (yay!), but I'm sitting in a cafe doing the homework I should have been doing last night. Unfortunately, there's no (free) internet at my house anymore and Paper Brain was in the recording studio all day yesterday recording a song for the upcoming PDX Pop Now! compilation. There wasn't internet at the studio either, so here I sit doing homework.

I do have to say that the song came out really really amazing last night. Being in the studio is always fun, even when it's not fun...it's still fun.

I will post studio pictures as soon as they're uploaded.

Poster Art

I guess I didn't figure posters were art, or at least I didn't figure mine were. But, I thought I'd post some of the better posters I've created for Paper Brain over the last *gasp* year.

weekend ho!

Since it's (FINALLY!) Friday and everything I've posted this week was a picture with a link I will recap my 'crazy' weekday adventures. In list form.

(1)Monday I had band practice and a quiz.
(2)Tuesday my office mate and I placed a grow pirate into a large beaker. grow pirate, grow!
(2a)I became a hurricane at home and cleaned like I've never cleaned before. Bear was perplexed.
(3)Wendesday was my brother's bday.
(3a)the peanut bush sprouted green stems!
(4)Thursday, another band practice after being stuck in traffic for over an hour.
(5)Friday (today!) a show! We play Slabtown tonight at, most likely midnight. whoop.

oooh, exciting. One perk of this week was getting a ride home everyday! Not that I don't enjoy my bus time, but man...it's nice to have a ride every once in a while. I also started reading Candide. I get the strange sensation that I've read it before...but it's not familiar enough to be sure.

well, on to the weekend then :)

Showcase

This evening Paper Brain is doing a showcase of new songs for the upcoming album. It's just for our label (probably only 2 people) but I'm really really nervous. I've only just started to play the new songs decently this week. I'm realizing I have perfectionist tendencies. :(

Collared

I've finally gotten a collar on Bear....one that isn't hot pink. His tags came from the county, so I figured it was time to fully domesticate him (although the tags were labeled: feline, male, Beatrix). He's spent most of the day almost getting his mouth around it.....we'll see how long it lasts.

I've also finished a few projects that were in dire need of finishing

1. My history essay. It's done, it's submitted, it's now in God's hands! ha!

2. My reading for the week....but, on to next week. ugh

3. I finally got fruits and veggies for smoothies in my *new* blender!

4 and last...I recorded a song that I'd like to have on the upcoming Paper Brain album.

Mike and I will go to look at a studio tomorrow that we're both really excited about. I think I've been in shock lately about how quickly things can progress. There's not a week from Feb to April that we don't have at least one show. It's all really really good.

One thing I'm really loathing right now is my lack of downtime. Well, really it's the lack of time to clean. My apartment was clean for a day, then I did laundry....now it's piles of clothes waiting to be hung and empty boxes that need to be recycled. I was also hoping to get some sewing projects in soon, but with all the reading for school I just can't justify it. ugh.

With that wonderful thought, I'm going to glance at Mr. Equiano, then try to watch Becoming Jane without falling asleep :)

The Fab Faux

On my way to work NPR did a story on The Fab Faux, a quintet made up of professional musicians who wanted to re-create. live, the Beatles songs that never made it to the stage. They aren't about dressing up or acting like The Beatles, just about exactly replicating the songs that could  not be performed due to the limited technology of the day. The live clips they played sounded like you were listening to the record! I'm definitely intrigued.
