No more school and the chicks are outside!

So after 5 weeks of peeping, molting and stinky poo the day has finally come to put the chicks outside permanently. Yesterday was sunny and warm so off they went into the coop and there they stayed. It was kind of hard though...when it got dark they all ran to the corner of the coop and cry-peeped cause they wanted to go "home" (AKA the tiny wire cage they've been living in). I shut them inside the coop and they seemed to quiet down. When I went to let them out this morning they were fine and came outside to peck at the ground. Hopefully it will start acting like June here, I do NOT want to have to bring them back inside.

I also finished my final paper for school this year. I'm really excited to have the summer off, especially because when I go back I will have to work 10 hour days to make up for missing fridays for 8 hours of school :(

super something....?

I've been pretty lax about posting lately, but I feel like I have a good excuse(s).

(1)The chickens now have a coop! well almost. Adam and I spent the last two days/evenings working on the 8x4ft wonder of a coop. All that's left is chicken wire on the door and chickens!

(2)Paper Brain is in the recording studio. That means that thursdays and fridays I am away from the house from 7am - 11:30pm. I have been leaving work early to go home and feed the cat between, but I'm not counting that as real "home" time.

(3)I have no internet at home. The router is controlled by the girl who lives above me. She has a mac and apparently the password doesn't work for PCs. Ultimately, the issue is out of my control...so I have to wait at this point.

(4)School. I have an essay every monday. I like school, I love the class I'm taking. I just wish I could really enjoy it more instead of rushing through it.

so, those are good excuses right?

Collared

I've finally gotten a collar on Bear....one that isn't hot pink. His tags came from the county, so I figured it was time to fully domesticate him (although the tags were labeled: feline, male, Beatrix). He's spent most of the day almost getting his mouth around it.....we'll see how long it lasts.

I've also finished a few projects that were in dire need of finishing

1. My history essay. It's done, it's submitted, it's now in God's hands! ha!

2. My reading for the week....but, on to next week. ugh

3. I finally got fruits and veggies for smoothies in my *new* blender!

4 and last...I recorded a song that I'd like to have on the upcoming Paper Brain album.

Mike and I will go to look at a studio tomorrow that we're both really excited about. I think I've been in shock lately about how quickly things can progress. There's not a week from Feb to April that we don't have at least one show. It's all really really good.

One thing I'm really loathing right now is my lack of downtime. Well, really it's the lack of time to clean. My apartment was clean for a day, then I did laundry....now it's piles of clothes waiting to be hung and empty boxes that need to be recycled. I was also hoping to get some sewing projects in soon, but with all the reading for school I just can't justify it. ugh.

With that wonderful thought, I'm going to glance at Mr. Equiano, then try to watch Becoming Jane without falling asleep :)

new book fun

I'm intrigued by this book. I hear it's a school/fantasy book, but more along the lines of Stephen King. My first taste of this genre (yes, I have only just started the Harry Potter series!) was actually a book called Inkspell by Cornelia Funke, which I found very pleasant. This may have to be my next read (after all the textbooks of course). Via bookshelvesofdoom

One of the classes that I am required to take for the eventual BS is personal health. We're doing nutrition and have access to an online nutrition calculator that we plug every single sliver of food and every step of activity into a spreadsheet which then calculates calories and such. It's been quite educational. I seem to consume a lot of sugar and fats (the bar graph above is my intake from today), yet not enough calories! Basically, if I eat MORE food that's less fatty and sugary I could lose weight without hitting the gym :)

I'm still going to hit the gym...food wont tone my muscles.

Gray, lazy day

It's really dull and gray outside. I'm sitting in a cafe and Coldplay just came on the radio...it fits the mood of the day perfectly.

I went into work for an hour, then decided that I should take the rest of the day off to work on homework, which I have been doing for the last 3 hours. I'll admit that I'm stressed. This history class is more reading than I had bargained for. I have about 300 pages of not-enticing reading left before I can start the essay that's due next monday. The book is staring at me right now, laughing. I've yet to read more than 10 pages of it without falling asleep. The sad thing is I like history!

Enough with the boring stuff. Last night I went to a tiki bar down the street called...eek...I don't remember, but it was truly fantastic. I took some pictures with my phone to try and show you how fun the decor was

I realize now that the pictures are not that good. But trust me, it was like being in a warm, glowing hut. It was just what this girl needed on a cold winter night to keep her going until summer arrives.

whirlwind weekend

happy Monday! can you believe I haven't had coffee yet and I'm SMILING!!! who would have thunk it to be possible.

This weekend was such a happy blur of music, my favorite shows and terrariums!

Ever since I saw Ann Wood's terrariums I have been obsessed with making my own. This weekend Adam and I went thrift store shopping for sweaters (to make sweater dresses! well, for me anyway) and happened upon some amazing terrarium canisters.

this was my first attempt. Everything in it came from Adam's yard on Saturday.

Sunday Adam and I went around my neighborhood and collected moss and lichens for some more terrariums, these two are probably my favorites!

Here's Adam's terrarium.

I only hope they stay alive. They were so fun to make and I want to see them grow and change, but collecting all the moss and rocks and lichen was so much fun it wouldn't be a tragedy to have to do it again :)

If you want to be inspired there are some amazing terrariums that Hello Yarn made or you could also check out the flicker terrarium group.

Other than prowling my hood for lichen I also played a show with Paper Brain at Backspace on Saturday. I wont go into the details, but I will say that bands who organize shows should know how a show works. You know...the unspoken rules and etiquette.

I also did a lot of reading. Did I say a lot? I meant more than a lot. I didn't realize I was capable of reading so much in so little time. Amazing what we can do when we have to!

In dreams

This is one of my favorite photos from the shoot (one of many!). There is also a video of us recording a new song for our limited release EP here that was shot this last weekend. We're really not that exciting. ha!

I originally saw this on Craftster.org, but now there's a detailed tutorial on Cutoutandkeep! how spectacular :)

I am a student once again :)

Today marked the beginning of the winter term. I'm taking a couple of classes online (yay!), trying to finally get my BS. Although it's only the first day of the term, I am already loving online courses. Everything is outlined, you know exactly when exams are and what they are and you have a nice long window of time to sit down (at home, in peace) and take them. I've already completed my assignments for this week (yes, I'm a geek).

Not Martha is reading Vampirates. The name is absolutely wonderful. I may have to see if I can find it at the library and take it along on our upcoming short tour (if I can put my knitting down long enough!)

I also came across a site where a granny will knit you something, like socks. You just ask the granny to knit it and viola, she does. Since my granny didn't knit me stuff as a kid maybe I can reconcile all those bottled up feelings I have about not getting nana-knits. Via Craft.
